What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little misfortune, but we sometimes see heat pump issues in Carlsbad during the colder seasons, when they’re needed the most to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Banister's Heating & Air Conditioning Services will forever be there ASAP when you ask for us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is necessary and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve gathered this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound ridiculous, but make sure everything is switched “on”. We’ve been to numerous calls only to realize the thermostat or the heat pump itself is set to off. Look at your thermostat to guarantee it’s on, set to the proper temperature and isn’t set to cool. Then try replacing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re unsure where it is) and inspect your fuses and circuit breaker. Confirm that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t switched on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make certain that it’s displaying the proper time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s really night, it may not switch your heat on because it doesn’t know you’re home. Is an obstruction causing your furnace to breakdown? Check your air filters to make sure they’re not jamming things up. Do you have any blocked ducts, vents or cool air entries? Are all supply registers exposed? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still without heat, call Banister's Heating & Air Conditioning Services at 575-887-7777 or schedule an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the toasty and cozy place it should be.
